As a true freshman in 2021, Kennady played in all 30 games, averaging 23.5 minutes. She was fourth on the team in scoring (9.6 ppg) and first in 3-pt percentage (44.2%) and steals, helping lead the Utes to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2011 and the Pac-12 Tournament championship for the first time in program history. McQueen earned her first All-Pac-12 honorable mention nod this season. She ranked second in the Pac-12 in three-point field goal percentage and ranked tenth in three-point shots made. Kennady scored a career-high 11 points against Washington State and also reached double digits against Stanford and Washington. A four-star recruit out of North Summit High School (Utah) she was ranked No. 60 and No. 18 in her position by ESPN. McQueen was the Utah Gatorade player of the year and played AAU ball under former Ute great Keith Van Horn.
